Kseniia Ivanova (Russia) – WINNER

On the Verge

Modern punks are young people of my generation born during Perestroika in Russia. They absorbed the uncertainty of the epoch, when the old ideology collapsed, and the new one had not been formed yet. Many of them experienced violence in childhood, social pressure, suffered from alcohol and drug addiction of their parents. But unlike the others, they are not silent. Punks stand for peaceful protests and openly declare their discontent, indicating the problems of modern society.

According to the independent analytical organization "Levada- Center" sociological survey held in September 2015, one in five Russian citizens would not tolerate punks and prefer to have them isolated from the society. One in ten Russians stands for eliminating the punks as a marginal social group totally.
